Make use of an unlimited org hierarchy
The organization hierarchy should be unlimited, and highlight reports should be able to show rooms on all organizational levels.
Implementation options include:
- Make use of the org table.
- Add an Fkey in rm and em to org and get hierarchy that way.

While our organization would use this, we have adapted to three tier so I'm not pushing for it.
IF it is done, I'm wondering how many people have what I think of as a ragged bottom level. We can have 10 levels, but the bottom level is the "department". That can be level 5 - level 10. (PeopleSoft) Our institutional data people do some good stuff so I can look up DEPTID in our DataMart and not have to think about what level it is. It seems complicated to me, but I do space, not finance. -

Totally agree. We have a customization to allow for 5 levels but have to customize every report to use the top 3 levels. Our customization was not very complicated to do. We also have end users requesting to track space at lower levels than the 5. Our PeopleSoft Organizational Hierarchy is 11 levels.

True it’s not easy, but this is a really important thing to be able to establish. I’m not sure that I’ve ever supported a customer that was happy with the simple dv/dp structure. Some have just gone with it, others have accepted the customizations to make a more robust structure to better suit their needs.
One thing that’s important is to also allow reporting to be flexible to allow for “at the selected level” and for “at and Below selected level”.
A|A1|A2|A3|A4|
Sometimes you want to see A2 through A4 (or whatever your max is). Other times you really want to just see a report on level A2.In addition to this getting the roll up of all the low levels upto a defined point is frequently asked for and a little more challenging. ie a report that shows A2~A4 and B2~B4 and C2~C7 and D2~D3 if that’s how the lower lever orgs play out.

I agree with Thomas that the level of effort would not be trivial, however this is something that should be done. As implementers, we are constantly trying to fit a customers n-tier hierarchy into 2 levels (dv/dp) and it never fully meets the customers expectations. Changing ARCHIBUS to start using n-tier hierarchy for organizations will be a long overdue enhancement.

Although interesting, this would probably require a complete revamp of a big part of the application ...
