RFID wand compatibility
The RFID tags would be incredibly helpful with TVA’s furniture assets. We currently have bar code stickers on much of the furniture to track our inventory, but there was no consistency on where the stickers were placed.
Exhibit #1: Some tall bookcases have their inventory bar code sticker on the back corner of the bookcase, which is impossible to access if the bookcase is loaded down with books and other (usually heavy) items.
Exhibit #2: Some of our mobile peds have their inventory bar code stickers inside the top drawer, which is impossible to access if the employee has locked the drawer, left the company, and taken the key(s) with them. RFID tags would be detected simply by standing in the doorway or (if the room is large) in the center of the room.
Instead of laboriously typing every RFID tag # into the Asset # field of each piece of furniture, it would be much easier to have an RFID wand collect that data and insert it into the Asset # field (and Serial # field, since TVA uses the Serial # field for the asset # and a brief description, since the Asset # field does not appear in all views):
When creating asset moves, it would be easier and faster for an RFID wand to collect the Asset # and place it into the “Which Asset?” field:
This would save us from having to lift, push, and/or crawl under furniture to obtain the Asset #.
